The answer to finding a quality every day bag is usually found in USA or European made goods. In the US we celebrate American made brands from Filson and J.W. Hulme, to Billykirk and Wm. J. Mills & Co. Then there are the more ‘luxury’ European labels, such as Mismo, WANT Les Essentiels, and Valextra. Enter Hasso, to provide us with a new promising option from South America. Founded in Bogotá, Colombia in 2009, partners Nicholas Hurtado and Andrés Niño started the brand because they “wanted a label with a strong focus on design, top quality materials and accurate craftsmanship.” Three years later it looks like they’ve lived up to their mission.
This season sees the release of their well rounded and beautiful third collection. Every piece is hand-made, using materials such as waxed vegetable tanned leather and sturdy 455g water resistant cotton canvases. As a whole the collection is well rounded: backpacks, briefs, totes and iPad cases are represented, all with a refined but outdoors-friendly aesthetic. Most notable are the Garcia Tote, an excellent alternative to the more common options (Filson) and the iPad sleeves which are some of the best I’ve seen this season. It’s about time we see some South American brands take the spotlight, and this one is well worth the attention. – M
